Description
Tome of the Damned is a top‑down roguelike created by Redtower Games. I find that it mixes action combat, dungeon exploration, upgrades for weapons and spells tough bosses and a special reincarnation mechanic. In this mechanic the undead hero can keep playing by taking over the bodies of enemies.
This idea is, at the heart of the gameplay loop of Tome of the Damned. When the hero dies the game does not end. The hero can take a body and keep fighting.
The setting of Tome of the Damned is dominated by a castle, underground rooms, hostile guards, warriors, mages and increasingly dangerous bosses. The overall design blends dungeon‑crawling action combat and roguelike replayability.
Difficulty and Roguelike Progression
Tome of the Damned is built around making tries and learning each time.
Steam tags include Roguelike, Roguelite, Difficult, Perma Death, Replay Value, Action RPG, Dungeon Crawler and Souls-like. These are Steam community tags, than formal developer-defined genre specifications but they accurately indicate the kind of experience users may expect.
If you are used to action games the first runs of Tome of the Damned may feel harsh. Tome of the Damned wants you to learn from each failure of winning right away.
